The movie 【Everest: The Gods' Mountain】, starring Abe Hiroshi—who won the Japanese Academy Award for Best Actor for 【Thermae Romae】—and fellow award-winning actor Junichi Okada, is set to hit theaters on June 17th. Based on the Japanese bestselling author Baku Yumemakura’s "most fulfilling" masterpiece, the film crew shot on location in the Himalayas, risking their lives during over a month of filming in Nepal. Abe Hiroshi, now in his fifties and playing the legendary mountaineer Yuji Hayabusa, shared his thoughts on taking the role, saying his first reaction was, “This is going to be an incredible project!”

【Everest: The Gods' Mountain】 tells the story of mountain photographer Makoto Fukamachi (played by Junichi Okada), who chases his lifelong dream by attempting to climb Everest with a fellow mountaineer. However, not only does the expedition fail, but his teammate also dies on the mountain. With no goal left and unwilling to face reality back in Japan, he drifts aimlessly in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal.

One day, he stumbles upon an old camera and immediately recognizes it as one that might have belonged to the famous British mountaineer George Mallory from decades ago. Intrigued by the possibility that Mallory and his partner Irvine may have reached the summit, he decides to investigate. This leads him to a mysterious man named Jiro (played by Abe Hiroshi), who seems to know more than he lets on. As the investigation unfolds, Jiro begins to move toward the mountain once again...
