The stunning Sea Goddess descends upon Dapeng Bay！ A new 15-meter-tall artistic light installation becomes a landmark

The 2019 Taiwan Lantern Festival was held in Pingtung, with the main lantern located at Dapeng Bay. The biggest highlight is this 15-meter-tall artistic lantern sculpture of a goddess, whose eye-catching design has become one of the new landmarks of Dapeng Bay, resembling a “Sea Goddess” guarding the bay, truly beautiful.

This Sea Goddess is the New Resident Art Main Lantern of this year’s lantern festival, titled “You Rong Wo Rong” (You Embrace Me, I Embrace You), which centers on new residents and presents the imagery of multicultural integration, embodying the ideal of ethnic harmony and expressing the land’s appreciation for its new residents. The most unique aspect of the main lantern is that the skirt of the goddess is actually made up of individual oyster shells. Visitors can even step inside the main lantern to experience a high-tech projection space.

“You Rong Wo Rong” was created by artist Wang Wen-zhi, using 5 tons of steel and 300,000 oyster shells intricately woven together. The interior space incorporates a silk-screen maze with Southeast Asian elements designed by artist Chen Yu-rong, showcasing a fusion of cross-culture and new art. After the lantern festival, this main lantern will be permanently preserved on-site, providing a great spot for rest and sightseeing.
