When traditional gua bao meets modern creativity, the blend of old and new sparks unique flavors. Tucked in the Taichung Railway Station commercial area, “Shengqiao Gua Bao” is a cozy 5-ping shop infused with a strong retro Japanese vibe, serving gua bao that skips the classic pork belly and pickled mustard greens—but features innovative combos like french fries, salted pork, fried noodles, and even ice cream. Seemingly clashing ingredients come together for unexpectedly delicious results.

“Shengqiao Gua Bao” offers six different gua bao flavors, plus a daily hidden special. Among the popular choices is the “Dongquan Fried Noodles Gua Bao,” which stuffs Taichung’s iconic breakfast dish—fried noodles—with the legendary Dongquan chili sauce, turning it into an innovative filling. The rich pork belly mince and chewy noodles are so good, you might miss out if you come too late.

Another signature item, the “Deep-Fried Red Bean Ice Cream Gua Bao,” features a crispy, flour-scented fried bun filled with the shop’s specially made red bean ice cream, packed with visible red bean bits, then drizzled with condensed milk. A must-try for sweet-toothed travelers.
