The long-awaited National Taichung Theater officially opened on August 26, underwent a one-month trial operation, and will hold its grand opening on September 30. To encourage Taichung residents to enjoy performing arts, the “Taichung Resident Card” offers an 20% discount on performance tickets and free access to general theater guided tours.

Acclaimed as one of the world’s nine new landmarks, the National Taichung Theater was designed by Japanese architect Toyo Ito. Based on the concept of a “Sonic Cave,” it features unique curved walls, perforations, and tubular structures. The entire building has no supporting beams and not a single 90-degree wall, overturning conventional architectural concepts.

The National Theater houses three professional stages and a multifunctional space called the “Corner Salon.” Every seat in the theater offers the same exceptional acoustic experience, with no poor sightlines — all seats have a clear view of the stage. The surrounding landscape design also follows the Sonic Cave concept, making every part, from the inside out and from the floor to the roof, a charming stage.
