Typhoon Malakas has just moved away and caused severe damage in Japan. A tropical depression near Guam is expected to develop into this year’s 17th typhoon, which will be named Megi and is likely to affect Taiwan’s weather next week.

The typhoon path is currently forecasted to pass through the Bashi Channel. Its direction will depend on the strength of the Pacific High Pressure; if the high pressure weakens, the typhoon may be steered northward, significantly increasing the chances of it making landfall in Taiwan.
If Typhoon Megi forms, the convergence of abundant ocean moisture and heat energy could make it one of this year’s top three strongest typhoons. With Teachers’ Day holidays next week, travelers planning any trips must pay special attention to weather updates and prepare for possible typhoon impacts.
