The Taichung Jazz Festival enters its 14th year, kicking off in grand style on September 30. The 2016 edition of the festival spans 10 days, featuring jazz musicians from 13 countries across Europe, America, Asia, and Africa, who will take turns performing on stage. In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the world's first jazz record release, the festival will adopt “A Century of Jazz” as its theme, showcasing the diverse evolution of jazz music.

During the 10-day main performance period, in addition to the main stage program featuring top domestic and international jazz ensembles performing cross-border collaborations, there will also be an intimate small stage showcasing emerging talents alongside seasoned performers. Furthermore, the festival will expand its reach to various districts — mountain, sea, and urban areas — with a series of stage performances that spread the charm of jazz far and wide.

Additionally, Grammy Award winner Aaron Lington has been invited to compose the official theme song, fully capturing the century-long splendor of jazz. Unlike previous years, this edition of the festival aims to revive Taichung’s inherent jazz DNA and enrich the city’s living atmosphere through a special series of “Jazz Awakening the City” events. From traffic lights and trains to neighborhood cafes, the reach of jazz will extend into every corner, awakening the city’s jazz spirit. Jazz will no longer be confined to the Civic Square during October but will become a lifestyle across Taichung.
