Typhoon Megi, a medium-strength typhoon, has brought strong winds and heavy rainfall. After the afternoon of September 27, wind and rain were noticeable across Taiwan, growing even more intense after nightfall. The central and southern regions need to take strict precautions. It is expected that starting from the morning of September 28, areas will gradually exit the storm’s influence, though the central and southern regions should remain wary of torrential rain. Regarding work and school suspensions: Kinmen County has suspended work and classes on September 28. Kaohsiung City announced the suspension at 21:00 (Update: Kaohsiung City announced the suspension at 19:00 due to weather conditions; northern Taiwan, including Taipei, New Taipei, and Keelung, will announce the decision at 22:00; see below for other updates on suspensions).

The Kaohsiung, Pingtung, and Hualien regions, as well as mountainous areas in Chiayi, Tainan, Yilan, and Taitung, may experience localized heavy to torrential rain; Penghu, the plains of Chiayi, Tainan, and Yilan, and mountainous areas of New Taipei may see localized moderate to heavy rain, with rainfall easing noticeably in the afternoon. The central and southern regions, especially the south and mountainous areas, should still guard against heavy rainfall.

After making landfall, Typhoon Megi maintained wind speeds of 14–16 on the Beaufort scale, with a 7-level storm radius of 250 km and a 10-level storm radius of 100 km. According to the Central Weather Bureau’s advisory at 17:30, the center of Typhoon Megi was located approximately 30 km southeast of Taichung.
Today (September 27), mountainous areas in Kaohsiung and Pingtung experienced localized very heavy to extremely heavy rain; the plains of Kaohsiung and Pingtung, as well as areas in Yilan, Hualien, Taitung, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli, Taichung, Nantou, and Chiayi, and mountainous areas in Tainan, faced localized heavy to very heavy rain; the mountainous areas of Taipei, Miaoli, Chiayi City, the plains of Chiayi County, the Hengchun Peninsula, and Penghu County had a probability of localized moderate to heavy rain. Rainfall in Yilan was astonishing, with the Lanyang River swelling; Orchid Island even saw Category 16 gales.
