Typhoon Songda (international name: SONGDA), a moderate typhoon, is centered at 31.3°N, 150.9°E, moving northeastward at speeds of 49 to 71 km/h. The central pressure of the typhoon is 930 hPa, with maximum sustained winds near the center at 48 m/s and gusts reaching up to 58 m/s. The radius of the area with typhoon-force winds (7th level) is 200 km, and that with severe typhoon-force winds (10th level) is 80 km. Another potential typhoon, Sarika (Typhoon No. 21), is expected to have a more significant impact on Taiwan between October 16 and 17. Due to the interaction between the continental high pressure and tropical circulation, most parts of Taiwan will experience increased rainfall during this period, with northern areas, especially mountainous regions, needing to guard against heavy rain.

Based on its projected path, Typhoon Songda is not expected to have a major impact on Taiwan’s landmass but will curve northward to affect the eastern waters near Japan. Those planning to travel to Japan in the coming days should pay attention to local weather changes. Meanwhile, the tropical depression east of the Philippines may develop into Typhoon No. 21 (currently forecast to be named Sarika), possibly forming as early as the evening of October 12 or on October 13, which could impact the climate in Pingtung and Taitung. In recent days, under the influence of more intense peripheral circulation, rainfall has been widespread across Taiwan, with the northern regions and Yilan area particularly needing to be on alert for torrential rains.
