Typhoon Sarika (international name: SARIKA), No. 21, has intensified into a mid-level typhoon, and Typhoon Haima, No. 22, has also formed. There is a high possibility that both will affect Taiwan, with October 19 and 20 being critical. The center of Sarika is located at 14.2°N, 124.4°E, moving northwestward at a speed of 15 to 26 km/h. The central pressure is 970 hPa, with maximum sustained winds of 33 m/s near the center and gusts reaching up to 43 m/s. The radius of the area with typhoon-force winds (Beaufort Scale 7) is 150 km, and that with severe typhoon-force winds (Beaufort Scale 10) is 50 km.
Typhoon Haima, No. 22 (international name: HAIMA), is currently a mild typhoon but may intensify to the upper limit of a mid-level typhoon, so its strength should not be underestimated. Its center is located at 8.5°N, 143.1°E, moving northwestward to west-northwestward at 20 km/h. The central pressure is 998 hPa, with maximum sustained winds of 18 m/s near the center and gusts up to 25 m/s. The radius of the area with typhoon-force winds (Beaufort Scale 7) is 100 km. Current forecasts suggest it may impact central and southern Taiwan as well as the southeastern part. If its path shifts northward, it could affect the entire island. Its movement over the next week needs close attention. Travelers planning recent trips to Hong Kong or the Philippines should pay special attention to local weather conditions.
