Fangshan Township in Pingtung County is famous for its shrike culture. For the first time, Chunghwa Post has incorporated local characteristics into the design of a post office building, combining green energy, cultural creativity, and localization. The convenience boxes of the post office have been transformed into the building’s exterior design, paired with the adorable shrike-shaped mailboxes at the entrance, creating Taiwan’s one-of-a-kind “Shrike-Themed Post Office.” It was unveiled on October 14 and immediately became a popular attraction, drawing crowds of visitors eager to take photos.

Located along the route to Kenting, Fangshan Township is renowned as the “Hometown of the Shrike.” The Shrike-Themed Post Office was completed and unveiled on October 14, featuring Taiwan’s first unique architectural design and 3D mural paintings that break away from the traditional image of post offices. The building’s exterior resembles a convenience box, and its colorful murals incorporate local cultural elements, featuring shrikes, Fangshan’s specialty onions, and Irwin mangoes. The adorable shrike figurines even serve as themed mailboxes, prompting passersby to exclaim how cute they are and take photos with them.

Not only is the exterior eye-catching, but the solar power system on the roof not only promotes environmental sustainability but also features automatically opening lids on the hour. The post office’s smart guided tours help visitors learn more about Fangshan’s notable attractions, such as nearby Fenggang Old Street, Fangshan Railway Station, the Shrike Ecological Exhibition Hall, and former President Tsai Ing-wen’s ancestral home. It is hoped that the Shrike-Themed Post Office will boost tourism in Fangshan.
