After Trump was elected President of the United States on November 9, the market had initially expected the US dollar to appreciate while the euro and Asian currencies would depreciate. The yen, as a safe-haven currency, was expected to rise in value. However, after several days of market interpretation of the friendly signals sent out by Trump, as well as the implementation of inflation-stimulating domestic demand construction and fiscal measures, the US dollar soared, while the yen, aside from a significant rise on the day of the U.S. election, has depreciated more than expected.

The current selling rate of the Japanese Yen against the New Taiwan Dollar at Bank of Taiwan is around 0.2992, a rare moment when the yen has recently fallen below 0.3. Travelers planning to visit Japan for autumn foliage viewing or to spend the Christmas season may want to watch for the right time to exchange their currency, making overseas shopping more cost-effective.
