After receiving complaints, Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan and the city’s Cultural Affairs Bureau paid attention to the issue and conducted an on-site inspection. It was decided to preserve the cultural and humanistic character of the district. After discussions with Watsons, assistance was provided to restore the original color of Yuanfang Hospital’s exterior. On the other hand, discussions are also underway to consider whether buildings in this block should be listed as historical structures, with members of the “Taoyuan City Cultural Assets Review Committee” conducting an investigation and evaluation. This incident involving the change in color of the historic building facade has temporarily come to a close, and it also shows that the current government and public have more appropriate concepts and greater appreciation for the protection of historic sites and architecture.
