Scenic Spots has compiled a list of six of the most famous Christmas markets in Europe—not only among Europe’s top attractions, but also globally renowned Christmas destinations that draw visitors from around the world.
1. Austria – Salzburg
Salzburg is world-famous as the birthplace of Mozart and the origin of the Christmas carol “Silent Night.” With its rich festive spirit, grand yet elegant charm, its Old Town is even hailed as “Austria’s most beautiful shopping mall.”

2. Austria – Vienna Christmas Market
This is the earliest Christmas market in all of Europe. Located in Rathausplatz (City Hall Square), at the beginning of November each year, an electronic countdown clock is displayed atop the City Hall tower, counting down to Christmas.
