The annual Taipei International Book Exhibition kicks off on February 12. The 2019 Taipei International Book Exhibition highlights ten star-chasing routes, along with perks such as free breakfast and coffee for visitors, plus over 500 events. The 2019 Taipei International Book Exhibition has invited many big-name idols and offers 10 star-chasing routes, so fans can stay up to date with their idols’ activities. This year’s ten star routes include “Idol Fans,” “Germany Enthusiasts,” “International Literary Scene,” “Hipster Favorites,” “Social Media Influencers,” “Anime & Light Novels,” “Illustrated Picture Books,” “Lecture Stage,” “Family Fun Zone,” and “Cross-Industry Spotlight.”

“Idol Fans”This route features big-name celebrities such as Show Lo, Stone (from Mayday), Melody, and Vivian Hsu. It also includes top variety show producers like Wang Wei-zhong and Feng Yi-gang, as well as famous opera stars like Xiaomi, Wang Jin-ying, and Tang Mei-yun.
The theme country of this year’s book fair“Germany”has invited 13 renowned German authors to Taiwan to engage with local readers, including Ferdinand von Schirach, Judith Hermann, Juli Zeh, Daniel Kehlmann, Eva Menasse, Maja Haderlap, Terézia Mora, Jenny Erpenbeck, Jan Wagner, Saša Stanišić, Navid Kermani, Daniel Kehlmann, Mirko Bonné, Jonas Lüscher, and more. Want to see international literary stars in person? Check out the“International Literary Scene”route. This year features Markus Zusak, who is promoting his new novel "The Book of Speculation" 13 years after "The Book Thief," as well as Japanese philosophy guru Ichiro Kishimi, author of the best-selling "The Courage to Be Disliked." Also appearing are popular Chinese author Zhang Jiajia, two leading Korean writers Son Ah-reum and Hwang Jung-eun, Japanese philosopher Tomohiro Takahashi, and popular Chinese, Hong Kong, and Malaysian authors Sheng Keyi, Yue Nan, Li Shu, and Dung Kai-cheung.
The “Hipster Favorites”route brings together celebrated authors from various generations, including literary giants like Bai Xianyong, Huang Chunming, and Zhang Dachun. It also features this year’s newly awarded Taipei Book Fair Grand Prize winners for fiction—Dung Kai-cheung and Yuo Yee—and other notable literary figures such as Yin Di, Xiao Ye, Liu Xuan, Wu Sheng, Chien Hsiung, Bi Feiyu, Ji Gang, and Yuan Zhen.
And the“Social Media Influencers”route invites popular internet personalities like the Huang Brothers and Nick, as well as online influencers such as Little Red (Netizen Little Red), The Pessimistic Philosopher, Rotten Text, and Minhao's Complaint Office.
Fans of Japanese anime and light novels will love the“Anime & Light Novels”route, which features Japanese subculture manga genius Usamaru Furuya, popular manga artist Kaoru Fukaya, and four autograph sessions by youth salon writers including Vanilla x Sky Blue, Drunk Colored Glass x Night Wind, Huzi, and Ling Jing. Other prominent domestic comic artists appearing at the fair include Ruan Guangming, Huang Xiwen, and Xu Mudi, while popular online Hong Kong writers Immortal and Middle will also meet fans in Taiwan.
