The Kaohsiung government has renovated the Heart of Love River to invigorate the city’s love-themed tourism industry, providing a new choice for Valentine’s Day dates.

Located at the intersection of Bo’ai Road and Tongmeng Road, the Heart of Love River is adjacent to the Houyi MRT Station and the Aozihdi Forest Park. The 2.6-hectare park area was improved before the Lunar New Year. In addition to upgrading aging pavements and facilities, the pavement on the Rainbow Bridge features creative designs — with ground paintings marking key tourist spots along the Love River.
The Heart of Love River is also a great place for a daytime stroll or rest.
From the Heart of Love River all the way to the Kaohsiung Music Center at the river mouth, the route includes landmarks such as the Heart of Love River, Tower of Light, Zhongdu Wetlands, Ao Yue Long Xiang, and the Film Museum. The park’s lakeside railings have been enhanced with festive-themed lighting that changes color schemes based on different holidays. A romantic lighting display goes off on the hour in the evening, making the Heart of Love River an ideal date spot after dark.
The riverside scenery at sunset is also quite enchanting.
The redesign of the Heart of Love River provides comfortable scenic and recreational spaces for both local residents and visitors from out of town. Existing mature trees within the park were preserved, increasing the overall green coverage and enriching the ecological environment.
The flower beds in the park have also been designed with great care, creating vibrant and photogenic scenes.
The park’s old shallow pool has been transformed into a dreamy landscape with petunias, salvia, snapdragons, and scarlet sage, adding a blissful and romantic vibe to the area around the Heart of Love River — definitely a top choice for a date.
