As the tech wave sweeps the globe, Pingtung County held a job interview for robots on January 3, with County Magistrate Pan Meng-an personally serving as the interviewer. The applicant immediately became the center of attention under the spotlight upon entering, with its sleek lines and flexible joints, exuding a technological and stylish vibe. After going through several fun Q&A sessions with Magistrate Pan Meng-an, the “Pepper” robot was successfully hired and officially joined the county government team, becoming Taiwan’s first humanoid robot to serve in the public sector.

With its tech-savvy appeal, Pepper can interpret emotions and interact well with the public. Last year, the county government introduced four sets of humanoid robots, Pepper, which not only serve as guides at the county office, welcoming visitors, assisting with tours of the premises, and providing policy information, but also put on dance and singing performances at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily. Parents are welcome to bring their children to interact with Pepper at the county office. In the future, Pepper will also be scheduled to visit schools and community care centers across various townships, bringing joy to children and elders alike throughout Pingtung.
