CNN, the American news network, annually selects nine new landmarks in global cities, choosing the most anticipated urban attractions based on architectural features, cultural significance, and more. In the 2016 selection, one of the more unique was the key development in Xinyi District—Tao Zhu Yin Yuan. Unlike public infrastructure projects, this is a luxury residential building. Its distinctive clockwise-rotating design and eco-friendly green architecture made Tao Zhu Yin Yuan the only residential building selected globally. Another Taipei landmark that made the list is the Taipei Performing Arts Center in Shilin, known for its eye-catching design featuring a sphere seemingly floating in the air and the concept of integrating art into everyday life for both refined and popular tastes.
