New Taipei City’s Joyful Christmas Town – A Dreamy “Blue Time Tunnel” Illuminates the Night Sky

Jingle bells, jingle bells, what a joyful sound—have you decided where to spend this Christmas yet? The 2017 New Taipei City Joyful Christmas Town officially lit up on November 24, with dazzling lights brightening the night sky of New Taipei and attracting passersby to stop and admire. Photography enthusiasts also flocked to the area, capturing the beautiful scenes with their phones and cameras.

These dreamy and stunning photos have sparked lively discussions among netizens after being shared on Facebook and Instagram. Among the most eye-catching is the “Blue Time Tunnel,” an elevated walkway connecting Banxin Twin Towers and Civic Square on Xinfu Road. The exterior of the walkway is woven from the wildly popular Tiffany blue and psychedelic white, creating a breathtaking light tunnel that feels as if you’re enveloped in the aurora, stepping into another dimension—you won’t want to leave once you’re there.

Some netizens even created humorous photo edits combining this year’s hit Korean drama *Goblin* with scenes from the Xinfu Road walkway—blending in seamlessly. Meanwhile, the corresponding Xinzhan Road walkway has a beautiful name too: “Melodic Bells of Happiness.” With a blue backdrop and classic red, green, and gold-colored bells, walking through it with your partner, family, or friends feels like a journey toward happiness.

This year’s Christmas Town is divided into three themed light zones. In addition to the usual Civic Square and Wanping Park, Banqiao Railway Station’s forecourt has been added, featuring three major light zones: the “Municipal Government Magic Light Zone,” the “Forecourt Shining Light Zone,” and the “Wanping Cartoon Light Zone.” These zones use a mix of sakura pink, psychedelic white, warm orange, and Tiffany blue to create three distinctively styled areas, making the entire romantic and beautiful Christmas Town a delight to photograph from any angle.

First is the “Municipal Government Magic Light Zone.” Starting from the New Taipei City Government entrance on Zhongshan Road, the “Christmas Town Archway” on the flower bed, and the circus-costumed square bear family on the floor-to-ceiling windows on both sides, everything is ready to welcome you to the joyful Christmas Town. Inside the government hall, welcome banners hang above, with snow-white reindeer and ponies leaping among silver-white Christmas trees. The “Santa Bear Snowland” is set up here—don’t forget to stop by and interact with Santa Bear to celebrate Christmas together.

At Civic Square, the “Royal Carousel” and “Snowy Flying Chairs,” both painted in white and gold, are adorned with dazzling lights. Cute circus-themed shipping container houses in red and white stand on either side, complemented by the “Dynamic Roman Columns.” As soon as the lights come on, a warm and joyful atmosphere instantly fills the air.

These two amusement rides have always been popular photo spots in the Christmas Town. In addition, brilliant lights are scattered like a starry river across corridors, tree groves, and flower beds, with cute lamp panels of lions, elephants, and sea lions decorating the tops of passageways, blending romance with childlike wonder. The sidewalks around the government building are also decorated with a mix of pink, white, and orange, creating romantic streets that feel like a dream.

The connecting corridor between Civic Square’s roundabout and Banqiao Railway Station’s B1 level features a ceiling made of psychedelic white and warm orange lights, with golden rays cascading down. The “Warm Fantasy Corridor” offers visitors to the Christmas Town an even more delightful experience.

Passing through the “Warm Fantasy Corridor” to reach Banqiao Railway Station, the Banqiao Railway Station Forecourt on Xianlu Road has been transformed into the “Forecourt Shining Light Zone” this year. The “Spinning Elk Forest” on the square immediately captures everyone’s attention upon its debut. The amusement ride features a white-gold canopy built with Christmas trees and shipping containers, harmonizing with the warm white lights on the surrounding roadside trees, shining brilliantly and mesmerizingly. Meanwhile, the ever-popular “Wanping Cartoon Light Zone” among children has invited Pororo the Penguin President as a special guest this year.
