Top 10 Airports in the World: Japan Claims Two Spots

In the latest ranking released by the renowned UK-based aviation service survey organization SKYTRAX, Singapore’s Changi Airport has retained its top position for another year. Japan’s Tokyo Haneda Airport and Nagoya Chubu Centrair International Airport both made the list. Other Asian airports on the list include Hong Kong and South Korea’s Incheon Airport, while the remaining spots are taken by airports in Germany, the UK, and Switzerland. Notably, Germany secured three spots, ranking fourth, sixth, and tenth.

Singapore’s Changi Airport has claimed the top spot for five consecutive years and has appeared in the rankings for eight consecutive years. Its internal service facilities are exceptionally well-developed—almost like a small resort shopping center. It’s so appealing that you could easily treat it as a tourist attraction in itself. Facilities inside include a cinema, spa, shopping mall, and even a rooftop observation pool. The addition of the brand-new Terminal 4 has further enhanced flight convenience. Meanwhile, the top spot for best airport hotel also went to Changi’s Crowne Plaza Hotel.

Taiwan’s Taoyuan Airport was ranked third globally in terms of passenger volume (for airports handling between 30 and 40 million passengers) in 2016. In the 2016 Top 100 Airports ranking, it secured 17th place. In 2017, it did not make the top ten but came in at 21st, though it still won first place in the “staff service” category.
