A large-scale development project in Ginza, GINZA SIX, is led by the parent company of Japan’s renowned old brand Daimaru Matsuzakaya, along with major urban redevelopment groups and Sumitomo Corporation. Based in Tokyo’s most bustling district of Ginza, the complex facility GINZA SIX officially opened on April 20, 2017, drawing significant international attention. Housing 241 brands, it is the shopping mall with the most brands in the Ginza area, ranging from high-end luxury labels to everyday goods and exquisite crafts, including many shops that pursue both Japanese tradition and innovation. The sixth floor features a 700-tsubo Tsutaya Bookstore in Ginza, promoting a fusion of art and Japanese culture. In addition, the complex includes an “GINZA SIX GARDEN” rooftop garden, a cultural exchange facility “Kanze Noh Theater,” as well as installations by several renowned artists, with plans to host various events in the future to spread new culture to the world.

As one of the global battlegrounds for top-tier brands, the site of GINZA SIX was formed by merging the former location of the long-established department store Matsuzakaya with surrounding streets, followed by a large-scale redevelopment plan. Due to its address at 6-chome in Ginza, the project is named GINZA SIX. Spanning a vast 47,000 square meters, it consists of 13 above-ground floors and 6 underground levels. Among the numerous branded malls, one of the most talked-about is the Tsutaya Bookstore in Ginza, which boasts towering bookshelves up to 6 meters high, along with a Starbucks café and an art gallery. The bookstore displays approximately 50 types of so-called world-class oversized art books collected from around the globe, making it a captivating spot for visitors.
