Recently, a new landmark has emerged in Shanghai—“Bafen Garden,” an art gallery dedicated to showcasing arts and crafts, which can also be used as a venue for press conferences, designed by Wutopia Lab,It features a highly unique exterior form, housing a café, library, office, homestay, restaurant, study room, and more, making it a miniature cultural complex. Located at a street corner within a triangular space formed by two-story buildings, this art gallery is embedded into one side of the building, presenting itself as a distinctive four-story circular structure.

The designer aimed to highlight the characteristics of Shanghai through Bafen Garden—neither minimalism nor exaggerated whimsy. Through a spatial relationship based on duality, the triangular courtyard is on the outside while the circular building is on the inside. The form is complex yet presents a simple interior, interpreting the gallery’s unadorned strength. Each floor of the gallery contains different elements; for example, the rooftop garden pays homage to classical gardens, creating a distinctive architectural fusion of past and present.
