Purple Romance Whirlwind: Seven Wisteria Spots in Alishan

In spring and summer, besides enjoying the tung blossoms and fireflies, wisteria flowers are also in full bloom. The Alishan Scenic Area, rich in natural ecology, showcases beautiful floral displays and landscapes in different seasons. The wisteria in Alishan is the Japanese Multiflora Wisteria, which comes in hues from purple to blue-purple. Its vines, which can grow up to one meter long, hang down in cascading clusters resembling spectacular waterfalls. There are quite a few spots in Alishan planted with multiflora wisteria. The first to bloom are Ciyun Temple and Huaxinyuan in the shopping area; other spots include the Zhongshan Village Elderly Pavilion, the Traveler’s Community, Alishan Hotel, the Work Station, Zhiping Park, and Alishan Botanical Garden. They will gradually come into full bloom by the end of April, and visitors can start planning their flower-viewing trips.

Ciyun Temple
Ciyun Temple was built in 1919. The temple enshrines a statue of Sakyamuni Buddha, with an outer layer of copper casting and inner gold sand, making it a thousand-year-old sacred Buddha.

Alpine Botanical Garden
The Alpine Botanical Garden is located midway along the trail to the Ogasawara Mountain Viewpoint, about 340 meters from Zhushan Station.

Zhiping Park
Zhiping Park, at an elevation of 2,274 meters, offers the most expansive views among all cherry blossom viewing spots in Alishan. It is located within the Alishan Forest Recreation Area, next to Zhiping Station.
