One night for 120,000 yen, all with city views – Unboxing Tokyo’s largest “basic room”

In 2014, Aman Group made its first attempt to open a hotel in an urban area, which many travelers consider “one of the world’s best luxury hotels that you must stay at in your lifetime.” Aman Tokyo has carved out a niche in the Tokyo market with its high-floor views, the largest bedrooms in Tokyo, and refined butler-style service. Despite a nightly rate of 120,000 yen (approximately 40,000 TWD), rooms remain in extremely high demand.

There are countless high-end hotels around the world. What makes a group like Aman stand out beyond its luxurious facilities? The reporter visited Aman Tokyo in early summer and experienced the sky-high pool on the 33rd floor. At Aman Tokyo’s pool, there were no lifeguards in sight—just one or two guests swimming alone. After the reporter’s first dip, upon getting out they noticed chilled mineral water had appeared by the pool. Upon returning to the water and briefly choking, they got out again only to find a suddenly appeared float board by the pool.
If no one was around the pool, how did the water and float board appear so promptly? A closer look around the pool revealed a dimly lit small room with a clock hanging on the door—that’s where the lifeguards and attendants are stationed.Complete silence and a seemingly transparent presence, yet every moment caters to the guests’ overall needs. The essence of a luxury hotel lies precisely in this kind of invisible service—where in a space that feels entirely private, you can still sense constant attention.

Aman Tokyo is located in the prestigious Otemachi financial district, occupying floors 33 to 38 of the Otemachi Tower. It has a total of 84 guest rooms and suites, each offering panoramic views of Tokyo. The property was designed by renowned architect Kerry Hill, who has worked on six previous Aman properties. Like other Aman resorts, it emphasizes a seamless blend of local culture and nature.
Combining tradition with modernity, the design uses abundant natural light along with classic Japanese materials such as camphor wood, washi paper, and stone, integrated with modern technology. A variety of textiles and textures create dynamic interplays of light and shadow. From the hotel lobby, which soars approximately 30 meters high, you can see the inner structure of traditional Japanese paper lanterns. Beneath the lanterns are two highly Zen-inspired Japanese rock gardens, while the inner garden is surrounded by corridors—echoing the traditional “engawa” (veranda) concept of Japanese gardens.

When it comes to guest rooms, Aman Tokyo’s 84 rooms and suites are the most spacious in Tokyo. The Deluxe Room faces the Imperial Palace Garden, spans 71 square meters, and is the largest basic room type in Tokyo. The Superior Room features a spacious foyer and bright bathrooms with views of the Tokyo Skytree. Each room also includes a private bathtub.
Staying in a room at Aman Tokyo is an awe-inspiring experience. Looking into the room from the entrance, the large bed faces the entire cityscape of Tokyo. The TV and water heater are cleverly concealed within a small console table in front of the bed, operated manually or by remote control. Sofa seating is positioned by the window, allowing you to lie back and enjoy the city night view.
The classic interior design also includes heated floor stones before the bath, maintaining a constant temperature to keep guests warm when getting up or preparing for a bath. Every moment in the room allows you to feel embraced by the entire city of Tokyo.
