Taiwan’s East Coast Brown Sugar Factory Boulevard features an endless winding path through vast fields of rice, creating a serene and healing landscape. Yilan’s Dongshan Township also has its own version of Brown Sugar Factory Boulevard, located in Sanchi Village. Stretching approximately 2 kilometers in length and 5 meters in width between Fengzun Temple and Xiesong Road, Yilan’s Brown Sugar Factory Boulevard boasts nine S-shaped curves and not a single utility pole in sight. From May to June each year, when the rice ripens, the road resembles a dragon lying amidst golden waves of grain. Walking or cycling along the path allows visitors to enjoy the scenery of rice paddies and rural life, and venturing into the narrow ridges between the fields offers the chance to breathe in the rich fragrance of rice and earth.

Each year in June, when the rice is ripe, Dongshan Township holds a series of events to promote the local characteristics and scenic beauty of Sanchi Village. The 2017 Sanchi Brown Sugar Factory Boulevard event series includes light cycling tours around Dongshan, aerial photography competitions, DIY landscape art, and blogger-written content sharing.
