The bamboo-woven architectural restaurant is a real eye-catcher – Nantou’s hidden local cuisine gem

The revitalization of old buildings has recently become a trend, with many cultural and creative parks and cafes transforming Taiwan’s historic homes into new spaces. Among them, Zhushan’s Zhuting Pavilion Cultural Space in Nantou revives the charm of an old train station through bamboo weaving art. Using the local bamboo weaving craftsmanship of Zhushan, 5,500 bamboo strips have been transformed into a large-scale indoor spatial art installation. It also combines bamboo cuisine, bamboo weaving crafts, and cultural lectures, giving the old bus station a fresh new look that has won over many visitors.

Zhuting Pavilion Cultural Space has transformed the second floor of the Taixi Bus Station, once an important transit hub in Zhushan Town, into a bamboo art complex. In addition to exhibition spaces for local bamboo crafts and cultural and creative merchandise, the dining options also adhere to the farm-to-table principle, offering visitors an innovative concept.

Zhushan was once a bustling town surrounded by vast bamboo forests and experienced a golden era. However, as the bamboo industry gradually declined and young people moved away, the once-important transit station was left abandoned for a long time. With the rise of the cultural and creative trend in recent years, the creation of composite spaces ranging from homestays to restaurants has given Zhushan the opportunity for a magnificent transformation.
