From the 12th to the 16th, the western half, northeastern regions, and other mountainous areas will have localized brief thunderstorms in the afternoon. Over the weekend, except for Hualien and Taitung, all areas of Taiwan have a chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Travelers are advised to carry rain gear just in case. With hot weather and high temperatures throughout the island, special attention should be paid to UV rays — all areas are at a red level (8–10), indicating excessive UV exposure. Skin can burn within 20 minutes of sun exposure. It is best to avoid direct sunlight between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Kaohsiung, Penghu, Pingtung, Taitung, and others may even reach a purple level (above 11), which is considered dangerous, so extra care is needed to avoid sunburn and heatstroke. Drink plenty of water.
