The highlight of Kaohsiung’s summer, the “2017 Qijin Hac Sa Art Festival” kicked off in grand style on July 8th at Qijin Beach. It attracts both domestic and international visitors every year. Here you’ll find beautiful coastal views, amazing sand sculpture creations, locally made goods and specialty markets created by Kaohsiung artists. This year’s Hac Sa Art Festival theme is “Mermaids Meet Qijin. Brilliant Kaohsiung,” with mermaid-themed sand sculptures. There are a total of 17 themed sand sculptures, 20 competitive sand sculptures, and 3 areas featuring driftwood art displays. The event runs until August 27th and offers free entry.

In addition to admiring the sand sculptures, you can also fly kites, play volleyball, surf, try your hand at sand sculpting, join the beach moonlight fun run, enjoy indigenous music performances, and catch open-air movies in the evening. Enjoy delicious seafood dishes and street snacks from Qijin Main Street paired with beer for the perfect treat.
