Danhai Light Rail Meets Jimmy Liao: Waiting Spaces Transformed into a Fantastical Canvas

Taiwan’s first fully integrated public art and station-planning light rail line, the Danhai Light Rail – Green Mountain Line, is hosting the “Danhai Light Rail Meets Jimmy Liao” exhibition at the platform and skywalk connecting passage of the MRT Tamsui-Xinyi Station. In addition to showcasing 11 life-sized scaled-down public art sculptures and a model of the Xingwuzhe Light Rail train, the exhibition uses multiple paintings and immersive setups to transport visitors into the magical world of *Close Your Eyes for a While*.

The first phase of the Danhai Light Rail, set to be completed and opened by the end of next year, includes the 11 stations of the Green Mountain Line, 3 stations of the Blue Sea Line, and one depot. Jimmy Liao spent nearly two years planning the entire Green Mountain Line, creating a new work titled *Close Your Eyes for a While* along with a series of three-dimensional pieces.

Using a magic hat as the symbol of fantasy, the story follows a little girl who puts on a hat under a wishing tree covered in magical headwear, embarking on a whimsical journey along the light rail. This transforms public art from isolated installations at individual stations into large-scale canvases across all waiting spaces along the line. It offers passengers a distinctive travel experience, allowing them to appreciate Jimmy Liao’s creations in a new way and enjoy the delightful fusion of art and transit.
