Turntables pop up on Greenway Boulevard—Free Your Sound summer music party in a green circle

This year marks the fifth edition of the largest installation art and interactive performance event in summer. “2017 Free Your Sound in a Green Circle” will be held from July 17 to September 4 at Taichung’s Greenway Boulevard. The Qianmei Puzhen Cultural and Arts Foundation initiated the event with the theme “Free Your Sound,” aiming to break the public’s conventional perception of music events. It establishes a music event centered around “artistic participation,” differing from the one-way relationship between performers and audiences. By allowing experiences and performances to happen simultaneously, participants can enjoy an unprecedented sensation.

In addition to the turntables at the “Electrical Laboratory,” the most interesting large-scale sound interactive installation is the “Dancing Watermelon Seeds” at Gold Street Green Park Mall. Just press the pump to deliver energy, waking the watermelon seeds from their slumber, and you can watch them dance freely in the water while singing out a summer melody, allowing the public to compose their own refreshing summer tunes.

Additionally, during the event, on August 12, “Free Your Sound Day” transforms Greenway Boulevard into a “Sound Island,” featuring five different ways of creating sound across five stages. In the evening, Qianmei Art Museum will also host performances by bands such as Won Fu, Wen Xia & Wen Xiang, teacher Yang Xiuqing along with Taiwan Smile Ballad Group, and community residents, presenting classic songs from different generations.
