1. ZhuoYe Cottage
Extremely distinctive ZhuoYe Cottage is tucked away quietly in the mountains of Sanyi, Miaoli. It offers homestay accommodations, a restaurant, and afternoon tea. The entire venue is free to enter. One of its most special features is the indigo dyeing workshops where visitors can create their own one-of-a-kind dyed works. A highly worthwhile spot to explore!

2. Tongxiao Shrine
When people mention Tongxiao, most think only of the beach. But hidden here is actually a shrine. Tongxiao Shrine is located within Hu Tou Shan Park in Miaoli. Built in the later period of Japanese rule, it has been restored and now retains a full set of traditional Japanese shrine structures such as the torii gate, shrine office, approach path, and worship hall—making it a quiet little place filled with strong Japanese charm.

3. Tai’an Bamboo Grove Secret Spot
When people think of bamboo grove pathways, Kyoto’s Arashiyama Bamboo Grove often comes to mind first. But Taiwan also has such a scenic spot—it’s the bamboo grove secret spot in the mountainous area of Tai’an Township, Miaoli, located beneath the Wugayan Camping Area with no exact address. The bamboo tunnel is densely packed with lush greenery, and sunlight filters down through the tall bamboo leaves—its beauty rivals that of Arashiyama.

4. Zhuolan Grand Canyon
Did you know that Taiwan also has a grand canyon as magnificent as the one in the U.S.? Zhuolan Grand Canyon is located at the border between Zhuolan Township, Miaoli County, and Dongshi District, Taichung City. It also goes by another name: the 921 Earthquake Grand Canyon. After the earthquake, the riverbed split into two sides, leaving exposed rocks that are strangely spectacular. While enjoying the breathtaking views of this canyon, be mindful of your steps—visiting right after heavy rain is not advised for safety reasons.
