Taiwan’s most comprehensive AKIBO robot exhibition ever – a 30-meter giant character wall that’s a real eye-catcher

This exhibition is the most complete AKIBO robot exhibition in Taiwan, featuring specially displayed large-scale three-dimensional robot artworks, intricate 3D models, and hundreds of figurines. There’s also artist Li Mingdao’s latest creation, the “AKIBO Robots Magic Mirror AR (Augmented Reality) Interactive Experience,” which uniquely combines mirror reflection principles and motion-sensing technology, allowing visitors to interact and converse with the robots in real time through the imagery. When visitors enter the interactive zone, the AKIBO robots will run into the interactive mirror frame to join in the fun, happily and playfully looking in the mirror with the audience.

Artist Li Mingdao Akibo Lee is deeply influenced by “Neo-Expressionism” and emphasizes that creations should have their own unique visual language. “My language is ‘robots’ and ‘metal shells.’ We know there are many kinds of robots, ... but the robots I make are meant to comfort people’s hearts and accompany us as we bravely move forward in these uncertain times.” This is also the core concept of this exhibition. He said that every time he travels, he makes a point to check in on his robot kids. “These works are like my children, gradually growing into one big family. Being able to gather them all together for such a large-scale exhibition feels like organizing a family trip — it’s a first for me, and I’m very excited!”

Lin Kuan-yu, Director of the New Taipei City Government Department of Cultural Affairs, stated that artist Akibo Lee’s robot installation works are endearing, highly recognizable, and widely loved by teenagers, showcasing his distinctive and captivating personal style. This exhibition specially brings together the heartwarming and comforting AKIBO robot works, transforming them into stunning visual art and tech-integrated creations. The goal is for both kids and adults to engage with and appreciate the works in a relaxed and lively way, thereby getting to know contemporary art.
