Originally named Black Forest, Taitung Forest Park earned its moniker because the entire area was planted with casuarina trees for windbreaks, giving the forest a dark appearance when viewed from afar.

The park features cycling trails that wind through the casuarina woods and connect three lakes: “Pipa Lake,” formed by an underground spring; “Egret Lake,” which was once a marshland and has since been restored; and “Living Water Lake,” an artificial lake designed to host various water sports and triathlon events. Together, the three lakes and casuarina forests form a complete estuarine coastal wetland ecosystem teeming with biodiversity.
