The newly released 2018 Shanghai Michelin Guide sees Taiwanese restaurant brand “Shanghai Laoganbei” and Wang Group’s “Swan Court” both retaining their Michelin one-star status, while Taiwanese brands alma and Din Tai Fung have also made the list. Another highlight: The Peninsula Shanghai, the only hotel in Shanghai to house two Michelin-starred restaurants, achieved three stars in total—with its Yilong Court earning two Michelin stars and Sir Elly's Restaurant retaining its one Michelin star.

The Michelin-starred Sir Elly's Restaurant presents contemporary French cuisine by Chef de Cuisine Zheng Han and Executive Pastry Chef Luc Sioeng, while Yilong Court is helmed by Chinese Restaurant Executive Chef Tang Zhiqiang, focusing on authentic and refined Cantonese cuisine—a significant milestone for The Peninsula Shanghai.

At Yilong Court, diners can not only enjoy traditional Cantonese dishes and dim sum meticulously prepared by Chef Tang, a native of Hong Kong, but also savor many creative and delicious offerings. Sir Elly's Restaurant has crafted a curated culinary journey where guests can indulge in premium seafood, Australian lamb shoulder, and exquisite desserts. Highlights of Western fine dining include royal oysters with Sevruga caviar, slow-roasted cod with flavored carrots and fresh mango, and an inventive popcorn corn lemon sorbet with white chocolate and caramel sauce.

Since the first restaurant star ratings were introduced in 1926, the Michelin Guide has been recognized as an international benchmark for fine dining over the past 90 years. The guide applies strict and consistent evaluation criteria worldwide, with anonymous Michelin inspectors carefully selecting establishments. To assess a restaurant, inspectors adhere to Michelin’s five key principles: quality of ingredients, mastery of cooking techniques and flavor harmony, the chef’s personality and creativity as expressed in the dishes, value for money, and consistency across all dishes.
