Many travelers habitually purchase “travel inconvenience insurance” when going abroad to protect themselves against issues such as flight delays or cancellations. However, if the situation involves “China Airlines flight attendants striking, causing flight delays,” property insurance companies state: they will not be liable for compensation!
For passengers who are accustomed to buying travel inconvenience insurance, there are currently over 20 property insurance providers in Taiwan to choose from, each with different compensation policies regarding flight delays, cancellations, lost luggage, or theft during the trip.
China Airlines flight attendants are expected to start their strike at 00:00 on June 24, ceasing to provide services, which will inevitably affect the travel plans of many passengers. If the “strike” results in flight delays or cancellations, the standards vary among insurers, butmajor insurers such as Cathay Century Insurance, Mingtai Insurance, ACE Insurance (U.S.), AIG Insurance, Fubon Insurance, Shin Kong Insurance, Taiwan Insurance, and Want Want Youxian Insurance will not provide compensation.
Fubon Insurance stated that, generally speaking, losses caused by trip delays due to strikes are mostly classified by the travel inconvenience insurance products of the property insurance industry asexclusions. Fubon Insurance currently also does not cover compensation for trip delay losses caused by strikes.
