Following the recent buzz caused by memory gum in Japan, Suntory has also recently launched “transparent milk tea.” It looks just like a bottle of mineral water from the outside, but once opened, it emits a rich milk tea aroma, and many are surprised to find that it actually tastes like real milk tea.

“Transparent milk tea” is the second trending product launched by Suntory in Japan, following the April release of the talked-about “Natural Water PREMIUM MORNING TEA Transparent Lemon Tea.” This time, they’ve introduced yet another new item. The transparent milk tea is made using extracted Assam tea leaves along with lactose and whey from milk, employing a special method to create a flavored yet colorless natural milk tea water.

Transparent milk tea does indeed contain milk — it’s just not obvious from the appearance — and it still has calories. This new product can be purchased at Japanese convenience stores, supermarkets, and drugstores for 131 yen (tax excluded) per bottle. Travelers planning a trip to Japan soon might want to give it a try.
