The China Airlines flight attendants’ strike began this evening (June 23) in front of the Taipei branch office. Under the union’s call, over 500 flight attendants gathered at the scene to voice their demands. Among the many flight attendants, Xiao Ruping, who once served as China Airlines’ cutout figure and calendar model, also wore a strike-supporting blue ribbon and vest, becoming an eye-catching presence.

Xiao Ruping, who was the face of China Airlines’ cutout figures for eight years, has a look similar to that of singer Gigi Leung. She has appeared in the in-flight calendar, starred in advertisements with Lin Chi-ling, and served as a host for outdoor programs. Always a familiar face at major China Airlines events and promotional campaigns, her high visibility earned her nicknames such as “China Airlines’ top stewardess” and “China Airlines’ Gigi Leung.”

The current strike by China Airlines flight attendants is mainly aimed at securing better check-in locations, rest time, and other demands, with preparations for a prolonged battle. The appearance of the former “star face” at the strike site excited many participating flight attendants, who exclaimed, “Even the cutout stewardess showed up!” boosting morale significantly.

The China Airlines strike will officially begin at 00:00 on June 24, initially affecting about 1,500 passengers. China Airlines stated that for affected flights, it will assist passengers with rebooking, arranging travel on other airlines to their destinations, and providing discount vouchers as compensation. Additionally, China Airlines will prioritize deploying available staff and may consolidate flights, adjust aircraft types, or use code-share flight services as needed. Passengers affected by flight changes can request alternative flight times, changes to destinations within the same region, postponements, or cancellations; those opting for refunds will not be charged a fee.
