The Dutch Village Windmill Festival in Tainan Kicks Off – A 7,000-Windmill Giant Maze That’s a Must-See

This year’s windmill festival at De Yuan Pi Dutch Village, with the theme “An Adventure in Dutch Village,” takes place from October 7 to 31, inviting visitors to become little elves and embark on an autumn exploration in a giant’s world upon entering the village. In addition to three major themed windmill exhibition areas — “The Giant’s Magic Circle,” “Meeting the Cat Messenger,” and “The Wind and Fire Chess Array” — there are also eco-friendly art zones such as “Happy Farm” and “Windmill Waltz.” During the six-day holiday periods of October 7–10 and 14–15, there will also be exciting street performances and interactive games like “The Elves’ Joyful Celebration” and “The Elves’ Life Harvest,” each with unique features and high levels of interactivity and fun.

The main exhibition area, “The Giant’s Magic Circle,” is a giant-patterned maze made up of as many as 7,000 small vertical-axis windmills. The friendly giant uncle, with a pipe in his mouth, awaits visitors. Upon entering the park, complete the giant’s tic-tac-toe chessboard (the Wind and Fire Chess Array), greet the giant’s cat messenger (Meeting the Cat Messenger), and don’t forget to step into the magic circle to have fun with the giant uncle.

This year’s newly launched “Happy Farm” exhibition area invites the adorable Egg Egg Chickens to visit the giant village. It also collaborates with the Xiaying Beiji Temple Xuan Tian Shang Di Temple and eco-artists to present the “Windmill Waltz” exhibition area, decorating the giant village with variously shaped windmills made from recycled plastic bottles.

In addition to the exhibitions, the park activities are also rich and varied. The Double Ten Holiday from October 7–10 and October 14–15 feature special celebrations for the elves to liven up the atmosphere, including taiko drum performances by Guoyi Elementary School, diabolo competitions by Xinshan Elementary School, performances by the Six Little Lucky Stars of the Qian Family, as well as street performances by balloon artists, crystal ball performers, magicians, and jazz drummers. Additionally, exclusive interactive games such as “Fun Water and Land Activities” and “AR Adventure Games” are offered (limited quantity, please sign up on the website in advance), making it perfect for both kids and adults to enjoy together.

In addition, the organizers will live stream the inner workings of the windmill at 4 PM on October 1 on the official Facebook page of De Yuan Pi Dutch Village. This is the first time the internal operations of a windmill will be publicly displayed. In addition to taking everyone behind the scenes to see the internal structure and understand the overall operation of the windmill, participants in the live interaction activities may also have the chance to get up close and personal with the inside and outside of the windmill on the opening day of the “2017 De Yuan Pi Dutch Village Windmill Festival,” without needing to book a flight to the Netherlands.
