Even non-art enthusiasts will want to visit — the Dadaocheng Wasteland Exhibition showcases Taiwanese and Japanese crafts

This year marks the third edition of the Dadaocheng International Arts Festival, which is in full swing with a range of activities such as themed programs, costume parades, performing arts markets, and lecture series. The festival includes 13 ticketed events, more than 20 lectures, and workshops. Among them, the “Dadaocheng Wasteland Exhibition” brings together traditional crafts by veteran artisans and imports many rustic wasteland items from around the world to sell on the streets, making it well worth a visit.

Wasteland items refer to rough, primitive household objects made from pure materials using traditional craftsmanship — such as bamboo baskets, wooden spoons, iron cookware, and ceramic tea sets. This year at the Dadaocheng International Arts Festival, Earthy Wasteland has gathered various Taiwanese wasteland items and displayed them on Qingyi Square along Minle Street in Dadaocheng. They have also invited contemporary Taiwanese artisans and literati to hold lectures and workshops, hoping to help the public gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan’s household items and experience the unique traces of wasteland culture among Taiwanese people.
