Tigerair Taiwan launches first flight to Sendai today with over 90% occupancy rate

Tigerair Taiwan (29) officially launched its Taoyuan-Sendai route today, achieving a remarkable 95% load factor on its maiden flight, making it the first Taiwanese low-cost carrier to fly into Japan’s northeastern region. Sendai is now Tigerair Taiwan’s seventh destination in Japan, bringing the total number of its Taiwan-Japan round-trip routes to nine after this launch.

Located in Miyagi Prefecture, Sendai is the largest city in Japan’s northeastern region, with a population of over one million. Its moderate latitude gives it distinct four seasons. Moreover, with the Hokkaido Shinkansen having begun operations on March 26, travelers visiting Sendai can now take the new line to reach Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station in as little as 2.5 hours.

A grand maiden flight celebration ceremony was also held today at Sendai International Airport. The mascot of Miyagi Prefecture, Date Masamune Sushi Maru Samurai, was present to welcome passengers arriving on Tigerair Taiwan’s inaugural flight. Tigerair Taiwan also conducted its routine maiden flight photo ceremony at the Taoyuan Airport terminal and held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Sendai Airport. Passengers on today’s maiden flight all received specially designed limited-edition maiden flight postcards from Tigerair Taiwan.

Tigerair Taiwan’s Taoyuan-Sendai route will initially operate four flights per week in the beginning. The outbound flight, IT254, departs from Taoyuan Airport at 14:15 every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. The return flight, IT255, leaves Sendai International Airport at 19:45 on the same days.
