The Yilan International Children's Folklore and Folkgame Festival kicks off on July 2nd: Save big with "Buy 1 Get 1 Free" entry tickets when using public transport

The Yilan International Children's Folklore and Folkgame Festival will be held on July 2nd at the Dongshan River Water Park in Luodong. Considering the increase in travel during the summer vacation, a large volume of traffic is expected to converge on National Freeway 5, making peak-hour congestion on certain sections difficult to avoid. The Ministry of Transportation and Communications and the Yilan County Government have collaborated on a program offering a “two-person entry, one person free” discount for those presenting both a public transport ticket stub and a festival admission ticket.

To meet the travel demand to and from Yilan, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has planned numerous public transport discounts, including a “Buy 1 Get 1 Free” offer on festival entry tickets for those holding bus or train tickets, as well as free transfers to Yilan shuttle buses on holidays.

Taking a direct Capital Bus ride from Taipei City Hall Bus Station to Yilan on a holiday as an example, the one-way fare is 270 NTD per person. With the ticket stub, you can enjoy a “Buy 1 Get 1 Free” discount on the 350 NTD festival entry ticket—so two people traveling together only need to spend 890 NTD in total. Plus, you avoid the hassle of driving and getting stuck in traffic, making it quite a good deal.

Key Public Transport Incentives for the Yilan Children’s Folklore and Folkgame Festival

1. Direct shuttle buses to the festival venue operated by national freeway bus services
The Directorate General of Highways and the Yilan County Government have coordinated with national freeway bus operators to launch direct routes to the festival during the event period (July 2 – August 14), with pickup available at multiple locations including Yuanshan Bus Station, Taipei Metro Nangang Station, Nangang Exhibition Center, Banqiao Bus Station, Taipei Bus Station, Technology Building Station, Taipei City Hall Bus Station, and Taipei Metro Dapinglin Station, offering direct access to the Yilan International Children's Folklore and Folkgame Festival venue. A total of 49 round-trip services will be available each holiday.

2. Additional TRA commuter express trains on weekends
From July 9 to August 14 (excluding July 23 and 24), additional Shulin–Luodong commuter express trains will run twice daily on Saturdays and Sundays. Discounted fares are set at 100 NTD, and the first commuter express train on July 9 will be operated using the EMU700 series Tokyo Metro special livery train.

3. Festival entry discounts and free transfers to Yilan local buses
Holders of national freeway bus or TRA ticket stubs can enjoy the “Double the Fun” promotion for Yilan International Children's Folklore and Folkgame Festival entry tickets: buy one, get one free for two people traveling together. On holidays, you can also transfer for free to Yilan’s “Red Trunk Line” and “Green Scenic Shuttle Buses.” The Red Line runs every 15 minutes, connecting Toucheng in the north to Nanfangao in the south of the county, while the Green Line runs every 30 minutes, linking transit hubs with various scenic spots in Yilan.

4. Additional car rental and dining discounts
Some national freeway bus operators have also partnered with car rental companies (offering up to 66% discount + maximum 300 NTD voucher) and dining establishments to provide ticket stub discounts. For details, please check the websites of the respective national freeway bus operators.
