Every year between February and March, after the start of spring, it’s the season when 150,000 Taiwan mountain cherries, yaezakura, and Yoshino cherry trees burst into colorful bloom across New Taipei City. Not only do they flourish in all districts of the city, but their crimson petals flutter like snowflakes, casting a joyful hue over the lush mountain forests. Right now, Taiwan mountain cherries can be seen shyly blooming at the Dajhih Detoxification Center in Daling Village, Pinglin, heralding the first romantic blush of cherry blossoms in New Taipei City.

Due to the influence of this year’s warm winter climate, the mountain cherry blossoms are expected to begin budding by the end of January to early February, and will be in full bloom by mid-February. By then, the peach-pink cherry blossoms will echo the festive atmosphere of the Lunar New Year holiday, making it the best time for cherry blossom viewing. Popular cherry blossom spots in New Taipei City such as Xilu’an in Wulai and Dahu Road in Sanchi will become hot viewing destinations.

New Taipei City is home to 150,000 cherry trees, waiting to bud in winter and bloom in spring. Cherry blossom events are also held in Shiding, Tamsui, Jinshan, Wulai, Sanchi, and Shicheng Districts, making them perfect destinations for weekend outings.
