The unique natural wonder of the Laomei Green Stone Troughs in Shimen District on Taiwan’s northern coast typically displays a vast expanse of green algae every April to May. However, due to climate warming, most of the troughs have turned green ahead of schedule, and this breathtaking sight has attracted many tourists and photography enthusiasts to take pictures.

In recent years, influenced by global warming and continuous rainfall, the moist environment has been favorable for the growth of seaweed. The Laomei Stone Troughs turned green as early as the end of December. Many visitors spotted this phenomenon while welcoming the sunrise, turning it into an unexpected scenic beauty. Due to the early greening, it is estimated that the area will be fully green by the end of February to March, though it may also whiten earlier due to climatic factors.

Laomei Green Stone Troughs
Public Transport: Take the Tamsui or Keelung buses (running between the two cities) in front of Tamsui MRT Station or next to Keelung Railway Station, and get off at “Laomei” Station (walk straight through the Laomei Community to reach the site after getting off).
By Car or Motorcycle:
1. Highway No. 3 (Jinshui Interchange) → Provincial Highway No. 2 → Wanli → Jinshan → Shimen (at 26.3 km on Provincial Highway No. 2)
2. Highway No. 1 (Wugu Interchange) → Freeway No. 64 → Bali-Wugu (heading toward Tamsui) → Guandu Bridge → Zhubei → Hongshulin → Provincial Highway No. 2 → Sanchi → Shimen (at 26.3 km on Provincial Highway No. 2)
