Honeywell’s Latest Light Single-Engine Power System Delivers Exceptional Performance in High Temperatures and Altitudes
TIANJIN, China, Sept. 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Honeywell Aerospace (NYSE:HON) announced a collaboration with Shanghai Jade Aviation Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Jade Aviation”) and Canada-based Eagle Copters, based in Calgary, to introduce China’s firstBell 407HP helicopterequipped with the HTS900 engine. As Honeywell’s channel partner and operator, Jade Aviation is committed to providing aftermarket support for China’s commercial helicopter market. Eagle Copters has enhanced the original helicopter platform using the HTS900 engine, increasing the Bell 407HP’s power output by 22% and its payload capacity at 12,000 feet altitude by 40%.
According to the 17th edition of Honeywell’s Turbine-Powered Civil Helicopter Purchase Outlook, from 2015 to 2019, demand for new helicopter purchases in the Chinese market exceeded the global average, with especially strong growth trends in search and rescue and tourism. The HTS900 is designed to deliver increased power output while reducing fuel consumption. Incorporating several of Honeywell’s next-generation technologies, the innovative compressor architecture reduces fuel consumption by 17% and lowers maintenance needs. These features of the HTS900 can help Bell 407HP operators save 12% in direct maintenance costs.

Honeywell’s Cutting-Edge Innovation and Quality Service
With the delivery of the Bell 407HP, Jade Aviation will become the first Chinese customer of the Honeywell HTS900 engine. The HTS900 is the newest member of Honeywell’s helicopter engine family, incorporating multiple next-generation technologies such as a dual-centrifugal compressor, cooled turbine blades, and nozzles. In addition, it is equipped with a dual-channel Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) system, which enhances safety and reduces pilot workload. Not only does the HTS900 incorporate numerous innovations, but it is also optimized for lightweight single-engine helicopters, contributing to safer and smoother flights for the Bell 407HP.

Jade Aviation will apply to the Civil Aviation Administration of China for airworthiness certification of the Bell 407HP. The Bell 407HP has previously received certifications from the Canadian Civil Aviation Transport Authority and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, and the CAAC certification will further ensure wider application of the aircraft in China.
