Winter hot spring soaking is one of the most beloved travel activities among locals. Besides paying to visit private onsen facilities or hot spring hotels, free public hot spring pools are also worth a visit. Here’s a list of five areas across Taiwan that offer free hot springs, including foot baths and bathing pools. Each of these hot springs features naturally precious mineral water that not only warms the body but also allows you to enjoy historical sites and scenic views.

1. Beitou – Foot Bath Pool at Fuxing Park
Fuxing Park is located near Xinbeitou MRT Station and is designed to blend in with the local natural landscape. The main structure features an open-air corridor design to enhance the interaction between the foot bath pool and other park facilities. While soaking your feet, you can also enjoy the view of Datun Mountain. The hot spring water comes from the Geothermal Valley spring system and is one of only two high-quality hot springs in Asia (the other being Tamagawa Hot Spring in Akita Prefecture, Japan), commonly known as “Blue Sulfur.”

2. New Taipei – Jinbaoli Public Hot Spring Bathhouse

Jinshan District is located on the northern side of the Datun Volcano Group and is rich in hot spring resources, featuring four types of hot springs: submarine hot springs, sulfur springs, carbonated springs, and iron springs. The public bathhouses in the area with the highest visitor interest are the Sulfur Harbor Community Public Bathhouse and the Jinbaoli Public Bathhouse. In addition to soaking, the Sulfur Harbor Community Public Bathhouse offers nearby pavilions for resting and has become a popular filming spot for many celebrities, idol dramas, TV series, and weather reports.

For visitors who aren’t comfortable with communal nude bathing, there are also outdoor foot baths available—perfect for families and groups of friends to sit together, soak their feet in the warm water, chat, and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Jinshan.

3. Taoyuan – Luofu Atayal Story Park

The first hot spring well in the Luofu area of Fuxing was successfully drilled, making it Taoyuan’s first “Beauty Spring.” Three foot baths have been set up in the Atayal Story Park, offering visitors a new winter travel option to enjoy a warm foot soak. Additionally, on January 13th, the Luofu Hot Spring Food Carnival will be held at the story park, featuring performances by the Original Forest Art Dance Troupe, tribal indie singers, and more. The event site will also host indigenous food stalls and DIY experiences such as jewelry crafting.
