The modern Chinese eatery “Social Place,” which has taken Hong Kong by storm with its healing-inspired dishes, made its Taiwan debut in early February. With visually soothing cuisine, it not only leads the trend of new-style Chinese food in Hong Kong but has also become a must-photo spot on social media. Its fashionable, casual, and open dining space, combining playful twists on traditional dim sum, was also voted Hong Kong’s “Best Cantonese Hotpot Restaurant” in both the 2016 and 2017 online polls.

Restaurant space

Introduced to Taiwan by the Hsin Yeh International Catering Group, Social Place officially opened in Taipei on February 5. Leveraging the chefs’ deep expertise in Cantonese cuisine, it introduced signature creations like truffle mushroom buns shaped like mushrooms and reimagined traditional egg tarts, as well as adapted versions of various Chinese regional dishes such as spicy mouthwatering chicken and black vinegar chicken flower. It also added unique dishes like black pepper crab from Singapore and Malaysia, quickly becoming a benchmark restaurant emulated across the industry.

Breaking away from the traditional tea house format centered around “one pot, two dim sums,” Social Place positions itself as a modern teahouse focusing on Cantonese and Hong Kong cuisine while incorporating dishes from across China. It also reimagines the conventional round tables, booth seating, and dragon-pillar decor of traditional tea houses. With an industrial-style space design and visually soothing layout, it transforms ping-pong tables into dining tables, creating a lively and fun dining atmosphere.
