As the winter vacation travel season peaks, many families plan trips during their annual leave and children’s school break. To protect travelers’ rights, the Tourism Bureau under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has, in accordance with Article 43 of the Development of Tourism Act, announced a list of travel agencies to be cautious of or avoided based on their operational status from June 24, 2017 to January 22, 2018, providing a reference for consumers to avoid disputes over travel products and itineraries that could harm their rights and interests.
When joining a tour group, it is safer to choose a legitimate travel agency with a valid license and sign a formal travel contract. During peak seasons like winter vacation and annual leave, extra caution should be taken when selecting travel itineraries and travel agencies.
I. Five Travel Agencies Whose Licenses Have Been Revoked:
1. Longqi (Taipei City, travel agency bond was forcibly executed and settled, but failed to replenish the required bond as stipulated)
2. Zhongying (Taipei City, travel agency bond was forcibly executed and settled, but failed to replenish the required bond as stipulated)
3. Genesis International (Taipei City, expelled by the Republic of China Travel Quality Assurance Association [hereinafter referred to as the Quality Assurance Association], failed to replenish the bond as required)
4. Shangpin (Chiayi City, expelled by the Quality Assurance Association, failed to replenish the bond as required)
5. Yuanding (Kaohsiung City, travel agency bond was forcibly executed and settled, but failed to replenish the required bond as stipulated)
II. Thirty-Two Travel Agencies That Have Applied for Dissolution:
Infinity Travel (Taipei City), Hongcai (Taipei City), Tianfu (Taipei City), Happy Paradise (Taipei City), Kangyi (Taipei City), Instant Booking (Taipei City), Taiwan Good Luck (Taipei City), Juxing (Taipei City), Jianquan (Taipei City), Bolo (Taipei City), Lingxiang International (Taipei City), Shengguang (Taipei City), Zion International (Taipei City), Gangxiang (Taipei City), Xixin (Taipei City), Taishan (Taipei City), Shanghai Tourism International (Taipei City), Junhang (New Taipei City), Yaxiang (Taipei City), Jiabang International (New Taipei City), Ruitong (Yilan County), Crazy Family (Taoyuan City), Dabeihuan (Chiayi County), Ruyilun (Chiayi County), Huazhan (Chiayi County), Mao (Tainan City), Youyou (Kaohsiung City), Lihao (Kaohsiung City), Dingwang International (Kaohsiung City), Yaoyang (Kaohsiung City), Heyan (Pingtung County), Meijianan (Kinmen County).
III. Two Travel Agencies Denied Credit by the Clearing House:
Xiangtai (Taipei City), Chunhe (Hsinchu City)
IV. Four Travel Agencies Without Performance Bond Insurance:
Jetai (Taipei City), Seven Seas International (Taipei City), Puti International (Taichung City), Taicheng (Taichung City)
V. Three Travel Agencies Ordered to Suspend Business:
1. Daye (Taoyuan City, abruptly ceased operations, failed to fulfill travel product sales commitments, and financial condition poses risks to travelers’ rights)
2. Ruixuan International (Taichung City, abruptly ceased operations, failed to fulfill travel product sales commitments, and financial condition poses risks to travelers’ rights)
3. Chagu (Kaohsiung City, company financial difficulties led to abrupt closure and layoffs, and financial condition poses risks to travelers’ rights)
VI. Six Travel Agencies That Voluntarily Applied for Temporary Closure (must apply for reopening after closure period):
China International Travel Service (closed until 2018/12/31, Taipei City), Earth Home International (closed until 2018/7/31, New Taipei City), Rixin (closed until 2018/08/31, Taichung City), Yudian (closed until 2018/06/20, Taichung City), Shenggong (closed until 2018/09/17, Tainan City), Anmei (closed until 2018/09/04, Kaohsiung City).
Additionally, the Tourism Bureau stated that travel inquiries can be made via the toll-free number 0800-211-734, or through the Quality Assurance Association complaint hotline 02-25995088. Travelers encountering emergencies abroad can seek help from the “Ministry of Foreign Affairs Travel Emergency Assistance Center (Global Toll-Free Number 800-0885-0885).”
