The 2019 Hualien Pacific Lantern Festival officially kicked off on January 26 and will run for a full month until February 24. Each day features exciting performances. The festival is divided into two zones: the Liyu Lake area and the Sixth Phase Lantern Area, where the most eye-catching boar lantern and many adorable red ducks light up Hualien together.

The “Pig-Shining Glory over Hualien” main lantern in the Sixth Phase Lantern Area has climbed onto its high platform. This 15-meter-tall zodiac lantern, shaped like a boar with Hualien characteristics, showcases a dazzling light show with various sound and light technologies. The “Humanities & Technology Theater” presents a new form of creative live dance, paired with various 3D interactive visuals and brilliant sound and light effects, taking the audience on an interactive journey through fantastical light and shadow.
The boar main lantern also looks quite cute during the daytime.
There are also the Ocean Imagery Hualien Lantern Area, the Interactive Light Art Lantern Area, the Blooming Prosperity Spring Lantern Area, the Hakka Fabric-Inspired Hospitable Hualien Lantern Area, as well as the dynamic twin auxiliary lanterns “Dragon Leaps Over Qilai” and “Phoenix Dances over Hualien,” which feature 360-degree rotating displays.

In the Liyu Lake area, the red ducks are fully inflated and swimming gracefully on the lake. At scheduled times, the Red Duck family dances to the rhythm of the musical fountain, putting on a spectacular show alongside the impressive 20-meter-tall fountain. Onshore, there are also photo spots like the Red Duck bus stop for memorable moments with the Red Duck family.

In addition, there is a giant red duck gashapon machine. Take a photo with the Red Ducks in Liyu Lake and upload it to the Hualien Tourism Facebook page to participate in the daily limited 100 gashapon giveaways. Also, take a photo at any event site of the Hualien Pacific Lantern Festival, share it on your personal Facebook with a tag, and you can receive limited-edition Hualien tourism promotional materials from past years. The Hualien Lantern Festival is a great place to celebrate the Year of the Pig and welcome the Lantern Festival.
