An old house surprises with a Japanese-style makeover; its fashionable exterior becomes a focal point of attention

A 36-year-old aging house located in Kaohsiung was renovated and transformed by a Taiwanese design studio, turning into a stylish Japanese-inspired residence. Compared to the neighboring houses, it stands out remarkably, attracting many tourists who stop to take photos as they pass by, and some netizens even make special trips to see it.

This old house renovation case comes from Casa & Café coffee shop in Taichung, which opened a branch in Kaohsiung and invited HAO Design to handle the design. Centered around the concept of a living home, it created a composite space that combines a studio and a furniture store. The original structure of the old house was preserved, with the indoor staircase moved outdoors and a large amount of glass window elements used to bring in daylight. Not only does it enjoy excellent natural light, but at night it also shines like a star on the street.
