Hand warmers are not allowed either – Five everyday items banned from airplanes

When flying internationally, passengers must go through multiple security checks. To ensure a smooth and quick process, many travelers check their luggage in advance to make sure they’re not carrying any prohibited items, including both checked and carry-on baggage. Some of these may be very common everyday items, yet are still not allowed on airplanes.

1. Hand Warmers
Hand warmers are disposable heat-producing products made of iron powder and salt. A small, unopened pack may be placed in checked luggage. However, if it has been opened and kept in a pocket, or an unopened one is placed in carry-on luggage, it may be subject to inspection. Whether it can be taken on the plane depends on the security regulations of each airport.

2. Lighters
Generally, only one traditional lighter is allowed. Electronic or windproof lighters, such as blue-flame types, are not permitted on airplanes. Some countries even ban lighters altogether.

3. Sports equipment, camera tripods, selfie sticks
Baseball bats, golf clubs, hockey sticks, skateboards, fishing rods, ice skates (or spikes), and other sports equipment — or items with a tube diameter of more than one centimeter, that are telescopic and exceed 25 centimeters when folded —may be considered potential weapons and are therefore banned from being carried on board.

4. Nail clippers
All cutting tools are prohibited from being brought on airplanes, including nail clippers. In addition, grooming items like razors and eyebrow trimmers may also be refused if they are too large or if the security staff is particularly strict. It's safer to check them in. If you have souvenir items with distinctive foreign features, make sure they are well packed and declared.
