The massive 300-tsubo Tsutaya bookstore—Taiwan’s fourth location now opens in Taichung

Since 2003, starting with “TSUTAYA TOKYO ROPPONGI” in Roppongi, the Book & Cafe Style has gradually expanded across Japan. After the first “TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE” store opened in Taipei’s Xinyi District in January 2017, it will finally meet consumers in Taichung on April 26, 2018, bringing the concept of “beautiful reading x dining time” to central Taiwan.

The biggest highlight of the TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE Taichung City Hall Branch is its over 300-tsubo super-sized space, making it the brand’s flagship store in central Taiwan. Co-created by TSUTAYA and the Shibuya-based Café Restaurant “WIRED TOKYO,” the bookstore and café are integrated into one space, creating a unique Book & Café lifestyle. The Taichung City Hall Branch will also offer several exclusive products available only at this location.

The bookstore section will exclusively feature limited-edition items from the newly opened Fukuoka Rokkomatsu Tsutaya Bookstore in Japan, including handmade goods from the Okayama-based brand DECHO/NAPRON, vintage industrial design pieces from CANDY DESIGN WORKS, and popular outdoor gear from ALLSTIME... among others. The well-known Japanese handmade eyewear brand Oh My Glasses showcases Japanese attention to detail through its design, texture, and packaging. Additionally, there are about 20,000 imported stationery and sundry items, around 20,000 Chinese books and magazines, approximately 20,000 Japanese and English original books, as well as Japanese children’s picture books. A family zone is set up for the first time, allowing parents and kids to enjoy reading and playing together. For gaming enthusiasts, a VR pop-up experience zone in collaboration with Sony PS4 will also be available.

The WIRED TOKYO Taichung City Hall Branch debuts with a signature dish: a Japanese wagyu burger made using wagyu beef from Miyako Island, Okinawa, in collaboration with the renowned “DOUG’S BURGER” from Miyako Island—allowing you to enjoy a must-try Okinawan dish without traveling to the islands. Additionally, WIRED TOKYO’s specialties such as cod roe mentaiko cream pasta, century-old bonito broth, Kyoto matcha, and a variety of desserts are all available at the Taichung City Hall Branch.

At the TSUTAYA BOOKSTORE Taichung City Hall Branch, customers can leisurely enjoy reading, purchase exclusive Taichung-limited products, and savor high-quality coffee, drinks, and meals from WIRED TOKYO while seated comfortably.
